29 Jun 09 3 Ways to improve your interview chances

If you have an approaching interview, here are 3 tips to serve you to perform better and secure your Ask

a – Research the department
Use the Net or local library to execute this. Examine the company website or study their press releases. If they are local, ask an employee for advice.

b – Research the post
Observe what accomplishments, properties and knowledge the employers are likely to be searching for and check out how you qualify.

c – Research your candidacy
Observe how this post blends into your career plan and discover why you want it. It’s important to understand your strengths and weaknesses. understand what you have to offer that’s unique. You should develop possible replies to problem areas in your record – have accounts for poor examination results, a gap in dates or a shift in focus.

2. Question Preparation

a – Prepare replies
Build Up replies to possible question areas and have instances and data points to back them up where you can. For Instance, if they ask you to talk about time when you stayed in something despite confronting troubles, you should have a peculiar response such as ‘My class were organising an event for charity and had problems with setting it up. But I made sure we had a plan B and sorted it out. We raised £3,000.’

Question areas are likely to be

(i) Skills and abilities
(ii) Future ambitions, destinations and objectives
(iii) Personality factors such as motivation and temperament
(iv) Fit with the post e.g. cognition of company, flexibility to travel, work shifts
(v) Past experience, academic, extra-curricular and work including results and achievements
(vi) Situational and hypothetical questions to see what you have done/would do in certain circumstances

3. Practice replies

I always tell people who are preparing for their medical interviews to practise possible replies out loud because they trip off the tongue more easily with practice. But do not memorize replies – you’ll sound more convincing if you speak naturally.
