While I was unemployed following the end of a Millenium Bug project I started to educate myself how to design a website and put one together. I created a website which I added to frequently, really just a personal site about me but what could be described as an early blog since I wrote articles and put down thoughts about things that occurred to me. It reaffirmed in me that I wanted to Work From Home.
Then a friend phoned and said he’d had an idea for a product and wondered if we could to start an Internet Business to sell it online. Alas, they did it so rapidly it was to be 6 weeks before we actually had anything to do.

But when we did get off to a start we developed a system that had lots of errors built into the design and which did not really had a chance because progress was demanded so rapidly that pieces of work were being completed and given in without ever being tested prior to the system testing getting going.

In The End I was able to get the car on the road and enjoyed the drive in both directions, although a 4 hour trip before starting work was tough going. I leaseda super flat with an old friend in the area of Jesmond and once again the off work side of the project was enjoyable and we enjoyed ourselves out in Newcastle at the Quayside by the Tyne Bridge. I loved the city and its people, being there was a joy and all too short.

It was decided that when the bulk of the system development was finished, that the firm would start to lessen the headcount of the most expensive freelancers, which meant that most of us did not get a new contract unless we went permanent with the firm. So the British, Canadians and Australians left but the project continued, being staffed on the development teams by people from Brazil, the Sub-Continent and Far East, Egyptians and South Africans.

The internet by this time was becoming a major fact of life. Broadband was not yet an option to be installed in people’s homes as a rule, it was a costly thing to have where and if it was possible to install, but the technology and software was beginning to come together which was soon to make a leap forward, making an Internet Business a dawning reality for those who were technically minded. Most of the work I had been doing was still not using any internet technology, but this was due to change.

I’m used to working for an Internet Business having done so for nearly four years. It seemed as if customers who weren’t interested in matters of High Civilisation had held off until the match began as if they were aware what was happening at the other end of the phone. We were frenzied as we rarely would be during an afternoon.

This time around the World Cup is in South Africa, and unusually, the games will be played in the same for the second tournament in a row. Usually following a tournament in Europe, the next would be across the Atlantic or in Asia. And this time it is perfect. Now I Work From Home, the hours I spend at work is open, which means I can pause for a match, go back to work and continue with what I was doing until the next match. Like many Online Jobs, mine means that I can make up the time I miss for the football by either getting going earlier in the morning or going on later into the evening than I would ordinarily do.

If someone drives 10 miles or more each way, travels in by bus or train then the cost, plus buying lunch, vending machine coffee and snacks can be considerable. If you work for or operate an internet business and work from home you get rid of all that. You still have to have lunch but it is a fraction of the expense of a canteen meal or a bought sandwich.

Online jobs only need basic equipment, an internet connected laptop and the ability to use it. perhaps a webcam connected too, but apart from that it’s easy to get set up.

Winter however can be a different matter. Staying warm is an issue because if one is at home on one’s own, heating the complete house to keep an office warm seems excessive. Using an electric space heater can be steep to run but there are a number of solutions not an option to the office worker. One is to go to bed. A wireless connection means that you can move location in the house easily and so getting tucked up means you can remain snug. But this can be uncomfortable and my favourite solution is a slanket, which is a sort of warm blanket which comes with sleeves and is perfect for using when sat at a desk as it will cover feet to shoulders. And if a really cold day calls for a bobble hat, well there’s no one there to chuckle is there? The same consideration also counts on a really hot day in summer when you can live the dream that sees you at work naked.

So, all things considered, if you hang up your hang-ups and get it arranged, work from home for an internet business and make life better!
